A speech about the alternative teaching approaches

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I wonder if I could have your attention for a few moments. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Mrs. Herson a director in the ministry of education.
I am going to speak to you about the alternative teaching approaches and their aims.

Firstly, as we all know, education for all is not the same thing as quality education for all. Today, it is widely agreed that it is not enough to put children into schools, they also have to learn something relevant and stay at school as it is a second home where one can learn about all the virtues of life. this is simply our main objective and in order to achieve it we do select the best methods to well group our children. Our plan will be the first in England which focuses on ability rather than age by grouping pupils according to their abilities rather than their ages. This will be such a revolution in education as it is beneficial for high achievers who will be able to exchange information and therefore expand their knowledge. Similarly, low achievers will be enabled to rectify their levels. This will allow the teacher to provide adequate direct instruction for each group. Then, I'll go on to tell you that our plan will improve the teaching methods by using technology as nowadays we can't live without it. Thus, high achievers will be allowed to "fly" on their own. However, we will not forget low achievers, as we will provide them with more individual attention, repetition and review so that they will not be overlooked. Lastly, I guarantee to you that selection will be beneficial to both advanced and intermediate students.

Thank you, we all wish you every success in the future.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. My name is Mrs. Herson, I'm the headmistress of Sidi Zid secondary school in Mahdia. Our school is situated in deprived area of Mahdia and most of students suffer serious weaknesses and we noticed that traditional class system wasn't working. Therefore, we realized we need a new plan.

Now, we are proud to be the first school to teach its pupils according to ability rather than age. We have mixed age classes with older and younger children studying together because we thought it boosts self-esteem. Besides, low achievers are not ignored and they are given special tutoring. We are now delighted to announce that we have a very low failure rate.
I'm of the opinion that we should always try to improve our teaching methods and adapt them to the need of our children.

Thank you for your time.

Good morning everyone. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Mrs. Herson, the headmaster of Bridgemary school in Gosport.
The subject of my talk is the alternative teaching approaches.

First of all, we must focus on ability because it's more important than age. As the founder of this approach, I would like to make our school a model to be followed in ability grouping. Secondly, when we mixed classes depending on student's achievement we enabled high achievers to fly on their own. Lastly, this phenomenon improves teaching methods as teachers work more intensely with low achievers. Hence, creating an atmosphere of competition.

Thank you for your attention and good luck in the future.

Good morning everyone. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Mrs. Herson, a teacher from Bridgemary school. I'm going to look at the new phenomenon which is "the alternative teaching approaches."

To begin with, focus on ability rather than age is the concept of ability grouping, which is one of the most authentic criteria to classify pupils. Moreover, our school is interested in paving the way for high achievers and taking care of low achievers who are more likely to work with their ability peers. Therefore, ability grouping ignites competition among pupils. Finally, once we change our traditional grouping of pupils, we can hand in hand build an amazing generation.

Thank you very much for your attention and if you have any questions or comments you're the most welcome.

Good morning everyone. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Mrs. Herson and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for inviting me to be with you today in this conference. I'm going to talk to you about my new teaching approaches and their aims.

First of all, I have mixed classes depending on students' academic achievements rather than age which is a kind of homogenous grouping. Second, this new grouping will improve the teaching methods since teachers will work more with those who need help. Also, this will allow each teacher to provide adequate direct instructions for each group. Last but not least, this teaching approach is beneficial for both high and low achievers since they can work according to their own pace.

Thanks for your attention and time. Good wishes.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Mrs. Herson, a teacher from Bridgemary school. I wonder if I could have your attention for a few moments. I'd just like to say a few words about the alternative teaching approaches.

To begin with, ability grouping is based on pupils' skills to give low achievers in our school a chance to expand their knowledge and boost their self esteem by working with their ability peers. Moreover, grouping according to ability is a new method that allows teachers to work more intensely with those who need help. Finally, our wish is to help students with lower ability achieve more to increase the pace of high achievers.

Thank you for your attention. I wish you every success in the future.

A formal complaint letter

Dear manager,

I am writing this letter to complain about your "holiday program." I was really disappointed with your ad.

You said that we would have a fantastic vacation with our family, and we didn't! I still remember your promise about luxurious accommodation and services. Unfortunately, we had to pay airport taxes as well as the means of transportation to go to the hotel which was old and uncomfortable. Even worse, no one came to guide us to our rooms. Concerning food, it was awful since we had to eat fish for three days successively! More than this, young children were disappointed by the swimming pool which was empty! Eventually, my mother was ill and she had to spend three days in her room to relax after walking to the beach, which was too far from the hotel, every day. Actually, I feel that we were duped.

I hope that you agree that the holiday was not as advertised, and look forward to receiving compensation.
Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir,
My husband and I have recently returned from one of your Golden Group holidays in Tunisia.
We chose this holiday in preference to many others as we were assured both in the brochure and by your agency staff that this particular package catered for retired couples like ourselves.  We understood that our specially organized activities would be run by mature friendly hostesses.  However, on arrival at our destination we were met by a very youthful rep who very curtly told us that there were only two other people on the golden group package and that, as a result, we could join in the activities organized for other groups or fend for ourselves.  Since our tastes do not include hard rock or late-night pub crawl we asked to be moved to another hotel. We were told that if we did this it would have to be at our expense. As a result, we decided to stay where we were and to organize our own entertainment.
Now that we have returned home we feel obliged to draw your attention to our deep dissatisfaction with the service we received. Not only were we deceived by the information in your brochure but we were not properly treated by your staff in the resort.
We hope that this matter will be rectified to our satisfaction in the near future and look forward to hearing from you shortly.
Yours faithfully,

Deceitful Aftermath

Deceitful Aftermath

The expression today in replay
Reminds us of a unique day

The day we broke our chains
And decided to end all pains

Freedom was a real success
But what about its aftermath?

When asked about my magic land
Tell them about the tyrant s' hand

A hand that stole the achieved joy
And moved citizens just like a toy

Sadly, our country had an abortion
Unexpected after a love revolution

Do you want to know more?
Well, just focus to see it all

We heard enough explanations
That merely brought complications

Shall we remind you in this date
Of what we are supposed to celebrate?

There is no room for selfish demands
Because we lost most of our lands

What to weep and what to forget?
Missing sunrise after a long sunset

We need to pray for divine care
Eventually it is our fair share

An interview about a holiday following the genre process approach

Given that the previous module dealt with the topic holidaying, I would like to invite my best friend Sheyma to ask her about her plans for the holiday.

-Hi Sheyma! Can I ask you a few questions?
-Hi Malek! yes, please.

-Where are you going to spend your holiday?
-Oh! yes the holiday is soon. Actually, I am planning to visit NewYork, the city that never sleeps.

-Oh great! It's a beautiful city. But, why did you choose this destination specifically?
-Actually, I chose this destination because I have some of my relatives who live there. I am also excited because I have the chance to meet one of my favourite actresses there, Angelina Jolie.

-Who is going with you?
- I am planning to go alone. I would like to be free and enjoy privacy.

-How long are you going to stay?
-I still don't know. It depends on many factors, may be if the weather is good I will stay for a long time!

-Cool! So tell me Sheyma, is there a specific activity that you like to practise there?
-Well! I am planning to visit the city from the South to the North and to do shopping.

-Great! I hope that you will enjoy your time. Thanks for your time.
-It's my pleasure to be here with you. Good bye.

A formal argumentative letter using the genre process approach

Dear editor,

I am writing this letter with reference to your quotation about the benefits of virtual learning. I want to share my viewpoint with you and all the readers.

You say that thanks to the cyber students can learn anywhere and anywhen. You also declare that online learners can achieve their wishes easier than real learners.
I cannot deny that virtual schools have many advantages. First of all, they encourage the freedom of having personalized lessons anywhere, anywhen and at one's own pace and rhythm. Moreover, online learning is better than real education thanks to its easy rules: no school uniforms and no heavy bags. But, what I like the most is that there is no homework. Short journeys is another reason to make cyber schools better than traditional classes.
However, distance learning does have drawbacks. I am not so sure of using electronic books and copy books. In fact, I believe that spending too much time staring at the computer screen is not helpful for the physical growth of kids. More than this, students find themselves stranded in a small world with a large number of names, but learners would not be able to have a normal reaction with teachers. So, they lose their energy and they become receptive, passive or even lazy.

In my opinion, distance learning is a double edged weapon. That's why we need to improve it without forgetting the necessity of traditional schools as they teach students not only learning skills but also social skills. Those skills are indispensable for their emotional and physical growth.

Yours faithfully,
Hadj Ali Sana

Dear editor,

I am writing to you with reference to your statement about the benefits of e-learning. I would like to share my opinion with you and all readers.

The statement says that online learning has myriad advantages, namely convenience. Despite this fact I do not think that distance learning will replace real learning one day.

Online learning, like all other types of learning, has benefits as well as detriments. The biggest advantage of of e-learning is that it enables handicapped learners to pursue their education without being victims of bullying and bustling. Also, the absence of school uniforms and heavy bags makes cyber learning much easier. Add to this, there are many pupils who are afraid of strict teachers, thereby online learning makes them more confident and less anxious. Despite having advantages, e-learning has many drawbacks. First, spending four or five hours in front of a small screen has many negative effects such as harming the eyes and lack of physical exercise. Second, e-learning makes people so passive and lazy. Also, the absence of communication makes the pupil isolated from his environment.

I think that distance learning has both advantages and disadvantages. No one can deny neither its benefits nor its detriments.

Yours faithfully,
Oumayma Ben Khalifa

Dear editor,

I am writing to you with reference to your article about the benefits of distance learning.

In your article you said that the e-learner "can pursue his or her studies whenever and wherever he or she wishes."
There is no doubt that online education is becoming popular in spite of the side effects it hides. On the one hand, this new method of teaching gives the children who left school especially those with special needs the chance to carry on studying. Moreover, e-learners enjoy more freedom in distance schools, for instance, they are no longer obliged to wear school uniforms. They also have enough time to practice their hobbies and forget about daily routine. Next, this new type of education is suitable for many categories of people. For example, it is the best solution for pupils who suffer from bullying or students who need to renew their confidence.
On the other hand, distance learning has many drawbacks. First, the fact of spending the whole day in front of computer screens could be harmful for sight and weight because of eating and sitting without practising sports. In addition, the absence of communication isolates learners.

In my opinion, there is nothing better than being surrounded by your friends, classmates and teachers.

yours faithfully,
Najah Brahim

Dear editor,

I am writing to you with reference to your statement about the benefits of e-learning. I would like to share my opinion with you.

Virtual school refers to an institution where all students' services and courses are conducted by internet technology. First, the benefits of e-learning include short journeys, absence of homework,  heavy bags or school uniforms.. Second, this type of learning solves the problem of bullying and bustling. Also, pupils who suffer from lack of confidence and other physical problems favour online learning. However, e-learning has disadvantages. To start with, the fact of spending hours in front of the computer's screen damages the eyes. Next, distance learning is characterized by absence of face to face communication with peers or teachers which results in isolation. Even worse, the fact of relying too much on technology causes students to be receptive and lazy.

In my opinion, since distance learning is based on the use of technology, then its advantages or disadvantages depend on the way it is used.

Yours faithfully,
Dhouha Taieb.

Image titled Write Persuasive Letters Step 17
Dear editor,

I am writing this letter to share my opinion about virtual learning with you.

You say that online learning is the best way to replace real schools.
It's true that the internet facilitates education and that it has many advantages. To start with, e-learners have more freedom than other learners since they don't have neither heavy bags nor school uniforms. Then, the most important thing is that handicapped pupils are safe from bullying and bustling thanks to distance learning.
However, e-learning has drawbacks. For instance, children may suffer from many health problems such as tiring the eyes because of staring at the screen for a long time. Moreover, students get used to easy information which makes them receptive and lazy.

In my opinion, both methods of education, virtual and real, have advantages as well as disadvantages and none of them is one hundred percent safe. Thus, pupils need to be aware of those detriments to avoid side effects.

Yours truthfully,
Jaweher Hamrouni
