William Shakespeare's biography

William Shakespeare, the Great Stratford Bard is the greatest dramatist and poet in the English language. He wrote comedies, tragedies and historical plays still played all over the world.

The English playwright was born in April 1564 at Stratford-Upon-Avon in the Middlands, England. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway who was older than him and with whom he had three children: Susannah and twins Hamnet and Judith.

Thanks to his great talent he had many occupations including dyer, player, butcher, printer, school master and soldier. These myriad activities inspired him in 1592 to start acting and writing plays. The year 1599 marked a transition in Shakespeare's life. In fact, he participated in constructing the "Globe Theatre," one of the pillars of drama, where most of Shakespeare's plays were performed.

Sadly he stopped writing at 1613 and went to live in Stratford-Upon-Avon, where he died in 1616. Despite his death Shakespeare remains the High Renaissance Genius and the icon of English literature.
